Rehabilitation Therapy
Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Therapy
Evaluating and treating injuries, illnesses, and disability
One of the most important aspects of any treatment program is rehabilitation therapy. Even if you are not having any pain currently our goal in our office is to rehabilitate normal structure and function of the spine. We can see you on a regular basis and adjust your subluxations, but we take what we do further. At Inspire Chiropractic and Wellness, we focus on rehabilitating normal spinal curvatures and improving normal posture with a combination of stretching, strength training, and tractioning of the spine to enhance the underlying structure and function of the spine in order to make you stronger as you progress toward true wellness.
In addition to the spine, Dr. Dan Wilson also focuses on proper biomechanics and rehabilitation of the other areas of the spine included but not limited to, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles.
Chiropractic Rehabilitation After an Injury
In the rehabilitation sequence developed by physical therapists, all injuries must go through a progressing order to maximize healing.

- We must treat the acute symptoms and manage the inflammation present with the injury.
We do this by utilizing the RICE protocol of rest, ice, compression of the affected joint, and elevation of the joint above the heart to reduce the amount of blood flow to the tissue to minimize swelling. It is important to note that swelling is important for healing however. Blood flow to the injured tissue is what provides nutrition to the injury to help it heal so do this under the supervision of your healthcare provider. - The joint in question must be PROPERLY MOBILIZED AND ALL FIXATED SEGMENTS MUST BE FREELY MOVING.
Many times this step gets missed. Think of your ankle. If the pain and soft tissue heals, however the bones in the ankle are not freely moving or aligned, do you think the strength and function will return to normal? Probably not. This is why chiropractic in our office focuses on properly mobilizing the fixated segments post injury in order to maximize the healing of your injuries. - Following mobilization we need to stretch any tight muscles that may result post injury.
Once the joints are properly mobilized the muscles and ligaments around the joint may still be very tight. We need to fully reach normal range of motion of the joint so that the joint may heal properly and also to prevent any other joints of the body from compensating for any improper mobility. - Moving to the next level in the sequence of rehabilitation requires increasing speed of the contraction of the musculature surrounding the affected tissues.
- Improving proper muscle control and strength will provide full healing to joints that are affected with your injury.
You must go through all phases of healing in order to return to your post injury ability. Chiropractic care is integral for rehabilitating the spine but also the other joints of the body. If you have been dealing with issues for years following injury you are probably suffering from a long term failure to rehabilitate from an injury.
